Pavement owners are increasingly looking for low carbon pavement materials, and they are turning to environmental product declarations (EPDs) as a requirement for paving contractors and mix producers. With the launch of Version 2 of NAPA’s Emerald Eco-Label EPD tool scheduled for April 1, 2022, it is critical for mix producers to understand what EPDs are and how they are being used. This webinar will provide participants with the information needed to talk with clients, owners, and internal staff about life cycle assessment (LCA), product category rules (PCR), EPDs, and how to use them correctly. This is the first of two webinars required to access the EPD tool. Learning objectives: 1. Understand the framework and standards for an EPD program. 2. Learn how to respond to customer requests for EPDs and how to prepare for EPD mandates in your market area. 3. Understand the capabilities and limitations of using EPDs to quantify the embodied carbon of asphalt pavements.
