Sub Committees/Task Forces
This committee formulates a program for the development and implementation of Research and Technology activities for the asphalt pavement industry. CART develops and presents research needs and project requirements to represent practitioner interests in a variety of forums, including TRB, FHWA, and state agency meetings. CART will further work to ensure practical implementation of research that will improve the quality and performance of asphalt pavements.
To identify, evaluate, and prioritize the application and practice of key engineering ideas and solutions impacting the asphalt pavement industry. The Committee monitors and evaluates current national implementation efforts to ensure industry has the needed resources (educational resources, training tools, etc.) to achieve successful industry application.
Ensure that asphalt pavements are recognized as the pavement of choice for environmental and social sustainability and issues involving quantification of the impact of pavements on the environment and society.
Provide guidance for conducting and improving LCCA, estimating costs, and cost-saving factors or inputs used in or influencing pavement type selection, including accurate salvage value data, remaining service life, analysis periods, price adjustment clauses, and proper pavement design.
Improve mixture quality and performance and increase the use of recycled materials, warm-mix asphalt, Thinlays, and other technologies while maintaining quality and reducing costs to maintain competitiveness. This group will look across all markets including highways, airfields, and local roads.
Identify, evaluate, and prioritize key sustainability issues impacting the asphalt pavement industry to ensure that the benefits of asphalt pavements are properly recognized in green rating systems, standards, and specifications. Develop guidance and procedures to quantify the potential environmental impact of asphalt pavements.
