Since China and other countries stopped importing waste plastics from other countries in 2018, finding a successful way to recycle or reuse plastic has become a national concern. Many have suggested using processed plastic waste in asphalt mixtures as either a polymer substitute, aggregate enhancement, or, in some cases, a binder replacement. NAPA, the Asphalt Institute, and National Center for Asphalt Technology have partnered together to understand what the science currently says and understand if plastic can be recycled responsibly into asphalt mixtures. This webinar will present the findings of this collaborative effort.
Participants in this webinar will:
- Grasp the current landscape regarding plastic waste in the United States
- Learn what research has shown the industry regarding the use of plastics in asphalt
- Understand the research gaps and what critical questions need to be answered.
